Powers of attorney
A power of attorney lets someone act on your behalf: sell property, represent a company, handle banking or immigration matters. For it to work in another country, both the wording and the legalization must be right.
If you live in Panama and need to act in another country, we prepare a bilingual power of attorney and coordinate signing before a Panamanian notary (with an interpreter if you don't speak Spanish), the apostille or legalization, and the translation.
If the power of attorney comes from abroad for use in Panama, we check that it meets local requirements and handle its Spanish translation and, where applicable, its notarial recording (protocolización).

If the country is party to the Hague Convention, an apostille is enough. If not, consular legalization is required. We tell you the right route for each country.

Frequently asked questions
Does a POA signed in Panama work in the US or China?
Yes, once it's apostilled and translated where needed. The US and China are both party to the Hague Convention, so no consulate visit is required.
Can I sign a POA if I don't speak Spanish?
Yes. It's drafted bilingually and an interpreter accompanies you when you sign before the notary.
