Route: Apostille

Apostille for documents between Panama and Colombia

Panama and Colombia are both party to the 1961 Hague Convention, so a public document only needs an apostille from the issuing country, with no consulate involved.

Worth knowing

Colombia issues apostilles online through its Foreign Ministry, so many documents can be apostilled without travelling. Colombians are among the nationalities with the most residency applications in Panama.

Documents from Colombia for use in Panama

  1. The document is apostilled in Colombia by the competent authority of the issuing country.
  2. It is translated into Spanish by an authorized public translator in Panama, unless it is already in Spanish.
  3. It is submitted to the Panamanian institution (Immigration, Public Registry, universities, courts).

Panamanian documents for use in Colombia

  1. The original document or a certified copy is obtained in Panama.
  2. It is apostilled at Panama's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  3. It is translated into the language required in Colombia; some authorities want the translation done locally, and we confirm this beforehand.

Requirements change and each institution may ask for something different. Before starting, we confirm the exact route for your document with you.
